Introducing Pilgrim Hospital, Boston & I.

My name is Dr Koshy Jacob. I am originally from Adoor in Kerala, India and came to the UK in 1998. Following completion of my training from hospitals including at London, Bristol Royal Infirmary &  Manchester Royal infirmary, I joined Pilgrim Hospital, Boston one of the three main hospitals of the United Lincolnshire NHS Trust in 2008.

I am a Consultant Physician, Diabetes & Endocrinologist as well as the Clinical Director for Medicine & Emergency Medicine at Pilgrim Hospital with responsibility for a budget of approx £ 35 million. Pilgrim hospital is facing a shortage of Staff Nurses in my Department and we are looking to recruit approximately 50 Qualified Staff Nurses. Predominantly we are looking to the Commonwealth countries including India, African countries including Nigeria, Phillipines etc to meet our  Nurse recruitment requirements.

Boston is a town with a small port near to the Lincolnshire Wolds, on the east coast of England. It is the largest town of the wider Borough of Boston. The borough had a total population of 64,637 at the 2011 census and is located due north of Greenwich on the Prime Meridian. The town has a market, held every Wednesday and Saturday in one of England's largest market places.

Boston has an Indian community and shop which sell Halal meat, Mangoes, Spices and Indian foodstuff. Majority of the Indian community in Boston work at the Hospital. They are from different states of India including Andhra, North India, Kerala, Bangalore and Tamilnadu. There are colleagues also from East Europe, Spain, Greece, Italy, Lithivania, Hungary, Czech republic, Nigeria, other African countries, Mauritius, Phillipines, Burma & Egypt. Boston also has East European, Chinese and Afro Caribbean shops selling imported regional foodstuff.

Boston has a good selection of State & Grammar schools. State Grammar schools in Boston are free or non-fee paying. New research carried out by property organisation Savills shows that the cost of living spaces across the county are among the best value for money nationwide.There are ample leisure activity opportunities, for both adults and children including a number of Swimming Clubs/pools, Tennis clubs, Badminton, Cricket, various Lynx Golf courses, Football stadium, well-equipped gymnasiums all within 10 minutes driving distance from the town-center. Boston is a good place to give children a well rounded education ( Kuk-sool, Horse Riding, Kumon, Music training facilities, Singing) , Blackfriars theatre academy etc essential to acheive  a place in world class Universities like Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, Kings, Birmingham etc... (All this at very reasonable prices compared to cities like London / Manchester).

The saving potential for a staff nurse  is more than in nearby cities like Leicester, Birmingham , Peterborough or in London.

Grammar schools in Boston  are (non fee paying) with good results. Good education to children is very affordable and a good proportion of students gain entry to Medical & Enginnering Schools.

Pilgrim Hospital, Boston Clinical Research Facility. 

Clinical research is centre stage with the research facility at Pilgrim Hospital. The Director of the Lincolnshire Clinical Research Facility is Dr Tanweer Ahmed.The facility includes a patient consulting room, research laboratory, filing storage room, research offices, meeting room and kitchen.

At Pilgrim, the research team are working on a number of trials including oncology, haematology, stroke, cardiology, paediatric, dermatology, diabetes, midwifery, ophthalmology, respiratory, anaesthesia, gastroenterology, renal and orthopaedics.
